Culture.
Don't you just absolutely positively LOVE the internet? A virtual world where everything and anything is possible. Where else can a search engine's logo (albeit slightly modified) provide so much silly pleasure to so many people? Yeah of course I am talking about Google's latest Doodle in honor of Les Paul's birthdate (June 9, 1915).

It seems slightly trivial to blog about something everybody has already seen, and probably blogged / tweeted about, but I think in this case we can make an exception. It is damn cool. And it's not flash, but some HTML 5 concoction, which, in today's web climate is completely on topic. Did I mention it's damn awesome?
I guess this is a one day only thing, but it should be preserved for the future over at Google's Logo archive. Actually, go there anyways and go see how many of the damned things there are, and, more specifically, how many of them we never actually get to see! I have literally just wasted about 30 minutes just browsing through them (the Charlie Chaplin one is quite entertaining!)

Anyways, earlier on today, I wonder aloud on twitter how long it would take for the musical folk amongst us to start doing awesome things with it.

Turns out it didn't take long at all! Have a look below at one amazing rendition (even though my good friend Willem calls bullshit). Decide for yourself I guess.
Want a shot at being a rockstar yourself? Try out these combos below (turn on the keyboard mode - that little button with keyboard icon on it):
Metallica - ONE

Bob Marley - Redemption Song

And the Godfather tune

Now go forth and be awesome!
Let's take a moment though
If I may, for a moment, get all serious and teary eyed. While Google's doodles are all fun and exciting, sometimes amazing and always something fresh, it's also a kind of reminder about the good, beautiful and positive things in our world. We all tend to get stuck in our work, lives and we only ever surface to the negative really. Even though the word doodle means something insignificant, playful and unimportant in the big scheme of things, I feel that they are in fact exactly the opposite. It's such a nice piece of social commentary, reminding us of the people, things and events from our past in a way that we all interact with. But let's stop this here, and I will do a post dedicated to this later on!
